On line Rehearsal Page

Good day, fellow Suncookies! Here you will find instructions for rehearsing some of the upcoming (or current) season's music via midi and audio file.

MIDI Files

What's a MIDI file?
In this section, you will find links to rehearsal files called MIDI files. MIDI stands for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, and what these files do is to play the music for you, as if you had a rather deaf accompanist playing the piece for you. The computer will play the file, and you will hear, depending on which file you click, either your part alone with the accompaniment, or all the choral parts together with the accompaniment. I have attempted to bring up the volume of each part and bring down the volume of the accompaniment-- your experience may vary depending on your computer's settings.

What you do:
For the most part, you'll just need to click on the file you want to hear, and your computer's media player will play the file. The computer will play the file from beginning to end, and using the position bar, you can locate a section you may want to hear over.

If you are not shy about learning a new piece of software and want greater flexibility in your rehearsing, I suggest downloading a program called Anvil Studio. This file will allow you to slow down or speed up the playing of the part, or you can set it to begin at a certain measure and have it repeat a certain section. It'll take some time to get used to using this piece of software, but you may well find it to be time well spent. If you wish to try out this software, click here to get to the web page about it click here .

Here is what is currently available (as of June 21, 2007)... click here to get to the MIDI files page.

The Music

You can email me for the Requiem (use the "email us" button on the Contact Us page), The Last Full Measure of Devotion, but the rest of the music you'll have to get at the Open Sings.

The Choral Public Domain Library, however, is an organization that stores all kinds of choral scores and is always an interesting take. Individual editors and composers submit their work either as a public service or in an attempt to self-market. All of it is free!  Go and take a peek; see if you find any old friends there.

Audio files

These are easily accessed; click on the file you wish to hear, and your computer's media player should load up and you should hear a recording of the Rehearsal CD tracks of the pieces you are seeking to practice.
